Bashkir State Medical University is a State Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education. Bashkir State Medical University is located in Ufa city of Russian Federation. Bashkir State Medical University was established in 1932 as Bashkortostan Institute with Work faculty in the city of Ufa(Bashkortostan).

In 1933 the institute introduced the Department of Histology, foreign languages and military conduct. In 1934 the institute opened the department of normal physiology, microbiology, Path-physiology, operative surgery, pharmacology, Internal Medicine, general surgery. By 1938, the institute had 32 departments, which are headed by nine professors and 23 Associate Professor. By the end of 1965, the institute had 22 doctors and 102 candidates of sciences, and by 1970, the Institute has become a major multi-institution of higher education.

In 2013 institute joined with Ufa Medical College and became Bashkir State Medical University. Currently the Bashkir State Medical University has formed scientific schools of surgeons, oncologists, internists, neurologists, infectious disease specialists, dermatologists, biochemists, morphology. Today Bashkir State Medical University has 98 departments which employs 220 doctors and 515 candidates of sciences.

Collaboration with leading international educational, scientific and medical institutions is one of the key priorities of Bashkir State Medical University. Cooperation with foreign partners enables students and young doctors of BSMU to participate in international exchanges, workshops, various joint research projects as well as to get familiar with other cultures and to improve foreign language skills.

To this moment BSMU's list of foreign partners includes about 50 universities, clinics, scientific and educational centers of Germany, China, USA, Norway, Austria etc.
Annually up to 80 students and young doctors of BSMU Clinic undergo summer internship in Universities of Germany and China. In addition, BSMU holds a series of lectures, workshops and seminars conducted by doctors and professors from other countries. The University, in turn, accepts up to 80 students per year from China, Germany, Mexico, Italy, Macedonia, Egypt, Hungary, Latvia, Bulgaria, Morocco and Kazakhstan for summer practice in BSMU Clinic.

Besides, in recent years BSMU took part in arranging significant international events that were held in Ufa.

Fellowships, scholarships and grants: Fellowships of American Austrian Fellowships (AAF) for participation at the Salzburg Medical Seminars The OMI - Salzburg Medical Seminars (the Salzburg-Weill Cornell Seminars, the Salzburg-CHOP Seminars for Pediatrics, the Salzburg-Cleveland Seminars, the Salzburg-Duke Seminar and the Salzburg-Columbia Seminars) link physicians from leading American hospitals and their affiliated medical schools with physicians practicing in Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, the former Soviet Union and other countries in transition.

Under the auspices of The American Austrian Foundation, the seminars are funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy and The Open Society Foundations, as well as corporate and individual donors.

Nowadays, BSMU Clinic is a unique medical institution, a teaching, medical and scientific base of
Bashkir State Medical University. The Clinic has 650 beds. Over 20 thousand patients from around Russia get treatment, more than 8 thousand 0perations are performed, and about 3 thousand babies are annually delivered here. Surgeons of the BSMU Clinic perform the following high-tech surgeries: liver and pancreas resections, stomach and small intestine reconstructive surgeries, all types of thoracoscopic surgeries, brachytherapy, coronary artery stent surgeries. Various techniques of angiographic studies and manipulations on all types of vessels, bile ducts, liver chemoembolization in growths, and uterine arteries embolization in fibromyoma arc involved in medical practice. The Clinic uses techniques of minimally invasive and transplantation surgery.

BSMU also organizes tournaments like table tennis, International tournaments of Cricket, Football, Basketball, and Badminton, etc. The Bashkir university library has more than 500000 books, 85% is the special medical literature. The library has 4 specialized reading halls with 252 seats, local net and electronic catalog which makes possible with access to many databases.
